Stephan Lefebvre trained by the master bowmaker Dominique Croquet disciple of the great Etienne Vatelot.
Coming from the high tradition of the French bow making, I conseived my bows in my workshop in Villers Cotterêts in the department of Aisne north of Paris.
Trained as cabinetmaker, practiced as a photographer reporter magazines, the thirty years before my beginnings in the bow making.
Violinists know that there are not two identical bows. That the simple fact of changing the bow changes the sound produced on the same violin. Try it and see it. The preferred wood is Pernambuco, a Brazilian wood, which has the acoustic and mechanical characteristics adapted to the function of a bow. Finding the bow that will make it possible to obtain sound with the desired comfort is no easy task. Also important element of the bow is a horsehair, of a Siberia or Mongolia male. Remember that it acts on the rope like a saw with microscopic scales that hold the colophony. These scales are wearing out.
